The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) reinforced its role as a regional leader in maritime capacity building, following its representation at the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Maritime Organisation for Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa (MOESNA).
Capt. Talib Ibrahim Mohammed, Director of TUM’s Institute of Maritime and Seafaring Studies (IMSS), represented the University at the high-level regional maritime gathering. The participation of the Director IMSS underscored TUM’s strategic commitment to shaping maritime policy, Seafarers education, and regional blue economy initiatives across East, Southern and Northern Africa. TUM maintains an active partnership with MOESNA—formalized through a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC)—aimed at advancing maritime training, capacity building, and professional development across member states.
TUM continues to leverage its formal partnerships—including existing agreements with MOESNA and regional maritime bodies—to expand specialized training for deck officers and engineers.
"TUM’s engagement at the ministerial level underlines our drive to position the university as a global centre of excellence for maritime education, training research and innovation in addition to seafaring training." — Director, Institute of Maritime and Seafaring Studies (IMSS).
