The TUM Institute of Computing and Informatics (ICI), in collaboration with the TUM Career Services Office and Claude Code Kenya, hosted a special career talk and hands-on workshop on AI-powered software development.
The event was officially opened by the Deputy Director of ICI, Dr Kevin Tole, as over 800 students and staff of ICI department gathered for the highly anticipated session.
The keynote speaker, Mr Peter Kibet, a 2024 TUM alumnus and now a successful software engineer at Anthropic, shared powerful reflections on his academic journey and the ambitions that shaped his path into the tech industry.
Kibet explored the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence, emerging trends in technology, and the evolving job market shaped by AI innovation. He emphasized that the world of software engineering is rapidly evolving. AI coding tools are no longer optional; they are becoming essential for modern developers. He encouraged students to stay curious, remain adaptable, and intentionally familiarise themselves with these tools in order to remain competitive in the industry.
The session then transitioned into an engaging hands-on demonstration, where Kibet introduced students to Claude Code, guiding them through a live project and showcasing how AI-powered coding tools can enhance productivity and problem-solving.
The workshop not only introduced students to an innovative tool but also equipped them with relevant industry insights and a clearer understanding of the skills required to thrive in today’s technology landscape.
