The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) participated in a roadshow on Saturday, 9th November 2024, to publicize the forthcoming graduation ceremony. The roadshow, organized by Pwani FM, a leading radio station in the Coastal region, kicked off at Sauti House, Mombasa, at 11:00 a.m. The convoy toured Mombasa City and its environs, making various stopovers at Mwembe Tayari, Kibarani, Changamwe, Magongo, Miritini, Jomvu, Mikindani, Tudor, Kongowea, Kisauani and Bamburi. The
the climax was Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach (Pirates).
The Technical University of Mombasa crew, led by award-winning engineer Mr Aggrey Shitsukane from the Electrical Engineering Department, took the opportunity to inform the Mombasa residents about the 11th graduation ceremony and the courses available at TUM.
"I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our 11th Graduation Ceremony, which will be held on December 5, 2024, at the main campus. We have invited Vice Chancellors from both public and private universities, Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Governors, Senators, Members of Parliament, and County Assembly representatives. This year’s theme is “Technological Transformation for Sustainable Opportunities within the Blue Economy,” Mr Shitsukane announced.
Engineer Aggrey informed the Mombasa residents about all the academic programmes offered at TUM, including Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelor’s Degrees, Master’s Degrees, and PhD.
Additionally, Senior Technologist, Engineer Bibie Mahmood from the Electrical Engineering department encouraged young women in the Coast region to pursue engineering courses. “Engineering is not difficult; you just need to change your attitude. I am a young woman like you, born and raised in Mombasa. If I can do it, you can do it too,” Bibie said.
The event was enlivened by performances from local artists such as Ibrahim Nyundo, Gates Mgenge, Ken 1GB, and Zangalewa dancers, who kept the audience fully engaged.
In attendance were Mr Salim Chiro, the Head of the Corporate Communications Department, Mr Khamis Juma Mkoka from Partnerships Research and Innovation (PRI), Mr Kelly Shibira from the Directorate of Career Services, and Mr Kennedy Otuoma from Corporate Communications.
With the graduates and community excited about the upcoming ceremony and inspired by the messages shared, the roadshow was a meaningful step toward enhancing awareness of educational opportunities at TUM and encouraging more local youth to pursue their dreams in Engineering and other fields.
