TUM MARKS WORLD CLEANUP DAY IN STYLE

As the people across the globe are preparing for the world cleanup day which is commemorated on 15th of September every year, TUM has taken the lead by cleaning the streets in Tudor and its environs. In her speech while addressing the TUM family, Vice Chancellor Prof. Laila Abubakar said that apart from academics TUM also cares for the environment and promoting cleanliness in the locality. “We are giving back to the community to show them that cleanliness is a collective responsibility for all of us.” She added.

Mombasa County Executive Committee Member in charge of Environment, Waste Management & Energy, Dr. Godffrey Nyongesa Nato commended the intiative as it contributes to the county efforts to make the tourist city of Mombasa clean. “Mombasa produces 2200 tonnes of solid waste daily. The Mombasa county government has the capacity to collect 1200 tonnes per day while 300 tonnes are collected by private entities. It means 700 tonnes are not collected.” Dr. Nato explained.

Prof Laila has lauded the Mombasa county government for relocating Kibarani damp site as it was tarnishing the image of Mombasa city. The event was organized by women lectures dubbed women cockers of TUM in conjunction with Mombasa county government.
