On April 15, 2025, over 300 BCOM and BBIT students gathered at the Assembly Hall for a Career Talk organized by the Department of Accounting & Finance in collaboration with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). The event aimed to provide students with real-world insights into accounting, finance, technology, and governance.
The session featured a diverse panel of professionals who shared their career journeys and offered practical guidance. Mr. Osman Varwani, Managing Director of Innovus Tech, emphasized the integration of accountancy with technology and its impact on the workplace. CPA Fred Oyugi from the Kenya Ports Authority highlighted the importance of visibility and goal-setting in one’s career path, while CPA Florence Birya, Assistant Registrar of Political Parties, shared valuable insights on governance and compliance.
FCPA Shabbir Issak, an expert in Islamic finance, underscored the significance of communication, creativity, and resilience in building professional networks. Additionally, Mr. Mukhtar Salim, Chief Technology Officer at Innovus Group, along with CPA Kiptoon from the Kenya Revenue Authority and FCPA George Mokua of Mokua Onwonga & Co., spoke about the importance of embracing innovation, big data analytics, and digital transformation in the industry.
The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, allowing students to engage directly with the speakers. Overall, the talk served as an essential platform for mentorship, networking, and preparing students for the evolving job market.
