The Technical University of Mombasa dominated the airwaves of Radio 47 and TV 47 on Friday, October 18, 2024, as the station producers transmitted their programs from the University for six hours.
TV 47’s popular Campus Wave program aired concurrently on Radio 47 and TV 47 from 2:00pm. to 8.00 pm., featuring live interviews, music, call-ins and other live performances.
It also featured students, their leadership and the Registrar of Academic Affairs Dr Cromwell Kibiti.
Campus Wave is one of the most acclaimed TV productions in terms of audience appeal in Mombasa and the larger Coast region.
The program, which targets the youth, normally features artists, opinion shapers, financial advisors, and professionals from different backgrounds who work with the youth or students.
The lead show hosts included the TV Queen Bancey Kimuyu and Manucho ‘the Young Baller’, Deejay Immo, Deejay Iyan and Deejay Slyze who kept the audience fully engaged.
Registrar of Academic Affairs Dr Cromwell Kibiti who represented the Vice Chancellor Prof Laila Abubakar used the opportunity to inform the public through radio and television that TUM has well-trained human resources and state-of-the-art facilities to prepare students for the job market.
“This is the oldest Technical Institution in East Africa. It was established in 1948 as the Mombasa Institute of Muslim Education (MIOME). Our Programmes range from Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Masters and PhD. We have five Schools and four Institutes. These are, the School of Engineering and Technology, the School of Applied and Health Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Post-Graduate Studies. The Institutes are, the TUM TVET Institute, the Institute of Computing and Informatics, the Institute of Maritime and Seafarers Studies and the ODEL Institute,” Dr Kibiti said.
The Registrar urged youth to take education seriously and to reciprocate their parents’ efforts through hard work. He also advised those taking Engineering and Natural Sciences to embrace certain business and social science skills to be holistic professionals.
During the same show, TUM Dean of Students Mr Joel Awino called on the students to embrace discipline to excel in academics.
The climax of the event was a thrilling performance from a celebrated music icon in East Africa, Masauti alias Kenyan Boy. Students showcased various dancing moves as they sang his hit song 'Dondosha' (Waonyeshe unavyo dondosha… wamerauka mimi nilikesha…Dondosha,..Dondosha hio).
