On Monday, July 28, 2025, a delegation from the Mogadishu Port Authority and AL Port, the operators of Mogadishu Port, visited the Institute of Maritime and Seafaring Studies at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) to discuss capacity building for personnel at the port.

The delegation was led by Mr. Ahmed Mohamud, the Director General of the Mogadishu Port Authority, and Mr. Umut Yurdakul, the General Manager of Mogadishu Port, led the AL Port team. They were welcomed to the university by Prof. Peter Gichangi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Research, and Extension, who represented the Vice Chancellor.

During the visit, the head of the delegation inspected a Guard of Honor mounted by the TUM regiment of cadets, which was commanded by University Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Steve Juba. The cadets honored the delegation with a “Three Cheers,” a gesture of hospitality.

Discussions on capacity building were led by Capt. Ali Abdille, the Director of the Institute and an adjunct Senior Lecturer. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and the need for Mogadishu Port to enhance its capacity in marine operations.

The discussions were further steered by Capt. Suleiman Bakari, the Chairperson of the Institute’s Maritime Research, Innovation, and Liaison Committee and an adjunct Senior Lecturer at TUM. The meeting concluded with an agreement to pursue collaboration and strengthen the existing partnership.
