Earlier today, Mr. Craig De Savoye, the Acting General Manager of Africa (Marine Personnel) at Wilhelmsen Ship Management, and Ambassador Nancy Karigithu, Special Envoy and Advisor on Maritime Affairs and Blue Economy at the Executive Office of the President, visited the Vice Chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Prof. Laila Abubakar.

Mr. Craig De Savoye's visit today was a follow-up to his initial visit in January, which was part of a scouting mission to explore potential engagements between WSM and Kenya. The primary aim of this visit is to formalize the incorporation of Wilhelmsen Ship Management in Kenya before the end of the year. Additionally, the visit sought to discuss areas of mutual interest and strategize on plans to involve TUM marine seafarers in WSM's initiatives and ensure their full registration in international programs.

During the visit, the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) had the opportunity to present its groundbreaking new Institute of Maritime and Seafarers Studies, showcasing advanced academic programs, and cutting-edge initiatives aimed at advancing the field of Maritime Studies and addressing the evolving needs of seafarers. This second visit by Mr. Craig De Savoye underscores his dedication to collaborating with TUM to formalize a framework for structured training programs, facilitate recruitment for TUM seafarers, and create job opportunities for the students.

Wilhelmsen Ship Management is a provider of third-party ship management services, overseeing more than 450 vessels and 9200 active seafarers, with a crewing network spanning 16 manning offices in 12 countries. WSM aims to open up opportunities in the global seafarers' labour market for Kenyan graduates.

The Technical University of Mombasa looks forward to further collaboration with WSM to position Kenya and the university as a source of highly skilled and sought-after seafaring professionals.
