The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) was awarded over 2.6 million shillings, as bursary to benefit over 200 students taking both undergraduate and TVET programs. This was revealed at the bursary award ceremony held at the Ronald Ngala Primary School grounds on 13th July 2024. The event was organized by the Mvita NG CDF (Constituency Development Fund) to hand out financial aid cheques to deserving students in the constituency.

Mvita's Member of Parliament, who also serves as the patron of the CDF, Hon. Machele, graced the event as the guest of honor. TUM was represented by Professor Laila Abubakar, the Vice Chancellor, accompanied by Dr. Michael Derrick Odhiambo, the Director of the TUM TVET Institute.

Speaking at the event Prof. Laila outlined the leading role played by TUM in the provision of quality and world-class tertiary education within the constituency, being the only fully-fledged local public University. She went ahead and appealed to the residents and natives of Mvita and the Kenya Coast in general, to take advantage of the presence of TUM and pursue higher education so as to be competitive in the labor market.

The participation of TUM in this event highlights the university's commitment to supporting students from the Mvita constituency in achieving their educational goals. The bursary awards will provide much-needed financial assistance, allowing students to focus on their studies without the burden of financial constraints. Students who benefitted are requested to pick up the beneficiary notification from the Mvita NG CDF offices and bring the same to the TUM finance office for subsequent processing.
