LET’S COOPERATE TO MAKE KWALE SAFE

Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) Kwale campus’ students and the community within Kwale County have been urged to give vital information to the police to make security operations in Kwale a success. Addressing students, mabokoni residents and TUM family during a meeting on security issues which was held on 25th October 2018 at Mabokoni, Kwale County Commissioner, Karuku Ngumo, said plans are at an advanced stage to construct a police post at the University premises.

“I want to assure the students and the community of our utmost support on matters on security in this area. We have already identified the site where the police post will be built and the money has already been allocated for this project. The Member of Parliament for the area, Suleiman Dori, and Kwale county governor, Salim Mvurya, have promised a total commitment on this project. Apart from this police post, the county government of Kwale announced that the money that will be accrued this financial year will be used to tarmac Ukunda – Mabokoni road and to install a number of security lighting systems.” Mr. Ngumo explained.

The County Commissioner requested students and members of the community to share information to the police so that appropriate measures can be taken. He urged them to treat the police as their brothers and sisters since security is a collective responsibility for all. In her remarks, TUM vice-chancellor, Professor Laila Abubakar, reiterated that the University has already processed the title deed which was a key requirement for the construction work to commence.

Prof. Laila lauded the Msambweni Member of Parliament, Suleiman Dori, and Kwale County government for supporting important projects at the University for the smooth running of education activities. “During this financial year, our budget was slashed by one third. We are, therefore, relying on the county governments and the area MPs through the constituency development fund to help us to implement some of the major projects in our institutions.” Prof Laila added.
