In the quest to improve the performance in STEM subjects in the Coastal region, TUM's Department of Mathematics & Physics visited Bahari Girls in Kilifi County on June 24, 2024, to mentor the girls to improve their performances.

The TUM team, led by Dr Cyril Wandera, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics, held interactive sessions with students to identify weaknesses and provide strategies for academic improvement.

Dr Michael Munywoki, a lecturer in the Mathematics and Physics Department, guided form two students in selecting subject combinations aligned with their career goals using the updated KUCCPS portal.

Students were encouraged to assess their study habits and strengths before adopting effective study techniques for better results. Dr Beth Menge emphasized the importance of time management, regular practice, and note-taking to enhance academic performance. "It is said that the shortest pen is sharper than the sharpest memory. The notes you take will always remind you of the concepts you read." Dr Menge expounded.

Dr Dorca Stephen encouraged the girls to overcome stereotypes and focus on their STEM career paths, highlighting the opportunities for girls in the field. Female students from the department shared their experiences to inspire the attendees, challenging misconceptions about STEM subjects.
