ACTUALIZING DREAMS FOR THE YOUNG LADIES
“DREAMS COME TRUE”
Tum under the management of vice chancellor Prof. Laila Abubakar has aspired many young girls to pursue courses that were once presumed as male dominance. She has always challenged the girls to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the national and county governments and other well-wishers to make sure they realize their dream careers regardless of the conditions they might be.
Her zeal on empowering girl child has finally paid off as the second unit of the Competence Based Education Training (CBET) pursuing Lathe Machine Operator and Manual Arc- welding courses, were purely girls. Some of which were class eight leavers and high school drop-outs.
To maintain the quality education TUM has entered into collaboration with so many partners like The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) to keep touch with the market requirements to make sure it offers courses that match the industry needs to be able to provide solutions to the problems faced by the society.
In this regard, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) under the stewardship of TUM’s Directorate of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) held a two-day training on work readiness for the second lot of the Competence Based Education Training (CBET) students from 17th -18th August, 2021 at the Technical University of Mombasa. This was to equip the students with the necessary skills on how to conduct themselves at the work place and be able to compete in the industry.
The training was conducted at the right time when the students are anticipating to proceed for their 3-month attachment in different organizations under the mentorship of Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).
The soon to be graduates have already undergone a 3-month rigorous training on Lathe Machine Operator and Manual Arc- welding courses from May to August 2021.
This cohort of 40 students was under full sponsorship of Germany Corporation (GIZ) and Plan International.
Speaking to one of the TUM’s Corporate Communication Officer during training- the Director- TVET Mr. Charles Majani highlighted that the directorate has endeavored in propelling offering of CBET programs within the schools in Technical University of Mombasa. So far, the School of Business and School of Engineering have successfully trained and graduated students under the CBET program.
