On September 17th, Prof. Laila Abubakar, the Vice Chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), led a delegation to Kilifi County for the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University and the County Government of Kilifi.

The participants from Kilifi County included Hon. Flora Mbetsa Chibule, the Deputy Governor of Kilifi County, Mr Felkin Kaingu Dena CEC Education, Mr Fredrick Nguma, Chief Officer for Education and Director for Vocational Training, and Madam Eddystella Wanja, along with other essential stakeholders. The TUM team, in addition to Professor Laila, had Dr. Michael Odhiambo, the Director TUM TVET Institute, Dr. Hamisi Mwadzogo, the Legal Officer, and Ms. Muzne Muses from the PRI Office.

This partnership signifies an important move towards fostering a mutually beneficial collaboration to build enhanced capacity for the Technical and Vocational training facilities in Kilifi County. The main mission is to open up opportunities for young people to participate in both technical and digital ecosystems as qualified employees and job creators.

The Technical University of Mombasa will develop and implement specialized training programs for vocational centers and instructors, as well as collaborate on community outreach and sensitization programs. On the other hand, the County Government of Kilifi will identify and facilitate the training of instructors, enhance infrastructure, and procure necessary tools and equipment for vocational training centers.

This collaboration has the potential to make a meaningful impact as we work towards empowering the young generation and fostering a bright future for Kilifi County.
