The School of Business held a Curriculum Development Workshop for the Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting and Finance, Doctor of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development and Master of Business Information System on 30th March 2021.
External Stakeholders from Pwani University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), members from the Nairobi Private sector and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK) and other practitioners from the field of business formed part of the panel. Their input was critical to ensuring that the courses offered were up to date and relevant to the industry.
Members from the Directorate of Academic Quality Assurance (DACA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and from the Students’ fraternity participated in the Stakeholders review of the curricula.
While officially opening the workshop, TUM Vice Chancellor Prof. Laila Abubakar applauded the members of the School of Business for initiating the workshop. She urged the team to ensure that they come up with programs that are relevant to the market without compromising on its quality with regard to Commission of University Education. She added that one of the recommendations that The Commission for University Education gave the University was that they should not overwhelm learners by repeating what they had already covered in the previous levels. The University must ensure that units offered do not overlap.
On her part, while highlighting the guidelines on the exercise the Director, Quality Assurance (DQA) Dr. Carren Okeri stated that by the end of the workshop, they should come up with programs that will be able to bring out the skills of the learners at the respective course levels. She insisted that the programs should have a balance in unit allocation as well as putting into account the CUE standards. They should also be technically and practically oriented in line with University’s Mission and Vision.
