On 2nd September 2024, the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) commenced the long-awaited registration process for the 3000 students in the 2024/2025 academic year.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) have placed students to pursue various courses at diploma and degree levels in the university. They began reporting on Monday.

The University gates were opened as early as 5:00 a.m., and students, parents, and guardians flocked to the institution from various regions across the country.

The Corporate Communications Office spoke to some parents and students about their first experience at TUM, the only Kenyan University at sea level. Many of them said they were satisfied with the pace of the registration process and the efficiency of the staff involved.

Tom Salaja, a parent from Baringo County who accompanied his son, expressed his joy that his son had the opportunity to study in one of the oldest and most reputed technical institutions in Kenya.

‘’I have known TUM for many years. I worked in Mombasa in 1997 and I liked the institution. Today I am a proud parent that my son has joined this institution to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Business Information Technology.” Mr Salaja quipped.

Another parent Ms Evalyne Sikuku from TransNzoia County was excited after her son was placed to pursue a Diploma in Information Communication Technology.

"TUM has always been my dream institution for pursuing Information Communication Technology. Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) placed me in another institution but I transferred to TUM. This is a dream come true and a golden opportunity for me to become a great scholar in this field”, Otihiniel Sikuku said.

To manage the large numbers, the university has set up registration points in different schools and locations across the campus.

The main places are the Assembly Hall for the School of Business, the E-Learning Centre for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the New School of Medicine building for the School of Applied and Health Sciences and the School of Engineering and Technology, and ICT lecture Block for the Institute of Computing and Informatics.

In addition to university enrollment, registration for clubs, unions, and societies is also taking place. This comprehensive approach to registration aims to ensure that new students feel welcome, informed, and prepared as they begin their academic journey at the Technical University of Mombasa.

As part of the registration process, an orientation session is scheduled for September 6, 2024. The session will provide new students with important information about the university's management, faculty, student leadership, policies, facilities, academic programs, extra-curricular activities, and available support services.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics Research and Extension Prof Peter Gichangi has assured all students who were placed by Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) that they will be admitted at TUM without paying anything as per the government directive.

As the registration period continues, the Technical University of Mombasa is excited to welcome a new group of talented individuals and aspiring scholars eager to leave their mark on the academic landscape and contribute to the university's vibrant and dynamic community.
