Two sixth-year Architecture students from TUM have been selected for the Erasmus+ Credit Mobility Programme, an EU-funded exchange programme. This marks the first time in Kenya's history that Architecture students will participate in this programme. This was after the Technical University of Mombasa's Department of Architecture and Built Environment (DABE) entered into an agreement with Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy, also known as Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) to facilitate the exchange programme.

Ms. Mariam Adam Hamadi and Ms. Faith Mwaniki Wangari will spend the spring semester from 27th February to 27th July 2024 at POLITO. They will receive monthly stipends and health insurance coverage (injury-related) from the EU during their time in Turin, Italy and their tickets are partly sponsored by the programme.

The programme aims to help students from different partner universities acquire key skills, support their professional development, and deepen their understanding of other cultures. This opportunity is also likely to boost a graduate's employability and transversal skills.

TUM will send Architecture students who have completed studio projects on Urban Conservation and Urban Design, which are done in Year Four and Year Five of study, respectively, to POLITO. Italian PhD students will also come to TUM for a period of five months to undertake research and field studies.

Starting from September 2024 to February 2025, two male students will travel to Turin, Italy, for the fall semester. By 2027, it is anticipated that 12 to 16 students will have benefited from the exchange programme.

Aside from the student exchange programme, there will also be a staff exchange programme. Staff from TUM will go to POLITO to teach for up to 2 months, and likewise, staff from POLITO will come to TUM to teach for the same period. The programme is expected to run until 2027.
