In a quest to create awareness about the university’s programs and career paths amongst high school candidates and graduates, Technical University Mombasa (TUM) creates platforms like career fairs, exhibitions and open days to give a chance to its prospects to acquire relevant information.
27th and 28th of January 2022, was yet another chance to meet and enlighten the youngsters from St. Charles Lwanga High school and Mazeras High School on the careers they wish to pursue.
The event which was graced by the TUM Registrar Academic Affairs, Liaison Officer and Lecturers from different faculties geared at sensitizing and encouraging students to work hard and attain good grades that will enable them pursue careers of their dreams. Those who were interested Engineering and Science courses, were advised to take STEM subjects seriously and to excel in them as they are determinants to the courses they wish to train in.
“As students start thinking about university and beyond, they begin to realize that there are many opportunities and options available for them. It is essential for the students to be pre-informed of career opportunities before they start looking for university admission; as they will need to combine their passion and dig deep to their skills and knowledge to be able to come up with the suitable career choices.” Dr. Jane Kyalo, TUM- Liaison officer affirmed during her presentation at the career fair.
TUM as a technical institution, offers undergraduate opportunities to students who scored C+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), C- (minus) and D+ (plus) for Diploma and Certificate courses respectively.
Mr. Musau, a lecturer from the Medical Engineering department urged the students to put a lot of effort and focus in their studies with an aim of excelling in future. He urged them to hold the quote “aspire to inspire before you expire” so dearly as a driving force to motivate them to make a difference in their lives and those of others.
The students had an interactive session with professionals and experts from different fields which was climaxed with a tour to the Science laboratories and engineering workshops.
