Joining few universities in Kenya; Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), in a colourful event graced by the University Vice Chancellor Prof. Laila Abubakar and Deputy Vice Chancellor - Prof. Peter Gichangi, inaugurated its first Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) based on ISO 27001:2013.
In her speech, Prof. Laila highlighted the urgency of obtaining the ISMS – ISO: 27001:2013 after certification of ISO 9001:2015 on Quality Management systems citing government directive, complying to legal requirement, to improve service delivery in the university and as a goodwill in all transactions with other stakeholders and collaborators. She further affirmed that ISMS will address the security threats specifically the cyber-attacks which seemingly are on the rise.
She further applauded the participants saying “It was indeed an interesting journey started by the staff together with the Maier consulting team, in which their resilience during the trainings and sensitization sessions culminated to this success. As we graciously mark the implementation date of ISMS – ISO 27001:2013 today, it should be remembered that majority of those sessions were conducted virtually at the midst of harsh Covid – 19 times of the year 2020.”
