The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) marked this year's cultural week with series of diverse and entertaining activities.
The annual event normally organized by the TUMSA took place from October 22 to 26.
The festival was divided into different themes with each day presenting activities on one theme. The highly interactive activities highlighted the unique cultural backgrounds of the students.
Festivities kicked off with a friendly community games tournament, where students from various tribes competed, fostering unity through a spirit of friendly rivalry.
One of the most eagerly awaited event was the final match between “Kogalo” and “Syokamau”— a contest between the Luo and Kamba communities, respectively.
The two encountered in an grand intense game that ended in a 1:1 draw, drawing an enthusiastic crowd.
Each day brought a unique theme to add flair to the celebration. On Tuesday, students embraced their creativity with humorous “Crazy Wear” outfits, while Wednesday’s “Old School” theme brought nostalgic fashion inspired by past decades.
Thursday marked the pinnacle of the week as students donned traditional attire and shared cultural dishes. The Kikuyu community served mokimo and suru; the Maasai offered hearty meat and blood stew while the Mijikenda showcased “bada” and “papa”.
On their part, the Kisii presented matoke and yams, and the Swahili community cooked “mathobosha. ” The vibrant traditional dances and clothing displays were a testament to Kenya’s rich cultural heritage.
The week wrapped up on with a memorable Gala Night on Friday, hosted by MC Short and MC Huncho. The evening featured captivating performances by models, dancers, musicians, and acrobats, as the crowd eagerly awaited the announcement of the cultural awards.

Beyond entertainment, Cultural Week fostered unity and pride within the TUM community, offering students a joyful and immersive celebration of Kenya’s diverse cultural heritage.
