KALANDAR SHEDOR KAMALKHAN

The Department of Architecture and Built Environment (ABE) welcomes you to the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). Started in the year 2017, it is the youngest department at the University.

The Department offers two Diploma courses namely, the Diploma in Architecture and the Diploma in Quantity Surveying. We also offer the Bachelor of Architectural Studies and the Bachelor of Architecture Degree programmes.

Our staff are highly experienced and highly trained to offer architectural pedagogy. Our courses are practical oriented and prepare students for the building and construction industry upon graduation. In addition to theory classes and studio sessions, students undertake internal attachment and external industrial attachment that expose them to the architectural industry. Site visits and practical classes in laboratories are part of the architectural education that we offer.

Being the only university in Kenya at sea level and with its historical buildings, TUM through the department of ABE places emphasis on Architectural Conservation, Design of Hospitality and Tourism facilities and Environmental Architecture which Mombasa readily offers.

During its short stint from 2017 to-date, the Department of ABE has worked on internationalizing its architecture programme by partnering with international universities to undertake virtual joint studio semesters – the first kind of international partnership in the continent of Africa. We also work collaboratively with other Kenyan universities offering courses in architecture to ensure high quality of architectural education is offered to our students. Additionally, the Department has accepted international students on semester exchange programme.

We welcome you to join us and experience the richness of studying in our department and to discover the different possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead of your professional life.
