Ministry of Education’s Post Training and Skills Development State Department Principal Secretary Zainab Hussein wants Technical University of Mombasa to be at the core of the realization of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Agenda at the Coast.

PS Zainab spoke at TUM on Thursday March 1, 2018 while on her maiden official duty since she was moved to the newly created docket charged with realigning and developing market responsive skills and training.

She said being a Technical and Vocational Education Training institution of higher learning TUM was strategically positioned to aid the achievement of President Kenyatta’s legacy pillared on Manufacturing, Universal Healthcare, Affordable Housing and Food Security.

“We are, as a newly created department, seeking to address the problem of having an education system produces graduates not required by the market through realigning skills and training with market demands,” she said.

Zainab and Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Laila Abubakar co-chaired a session with the varsity’s top management cadre including deans, directors and chairs of departments.

“We need to critically think about the conversion rate, establishment of strong career and linkages as well as apprenticeship programs. I will be back in two weeks for further discussions,” said the PS.
