TUM unveils School of Medicine building in a colorful handing over event that was presided over
by the Vice chancellor, Prof. Laila Abubakar at the main Campus in Tudor.
The building cost Ksh. 266Million houses various facilities including Science Labs, Computer
Labs that will be very vital in the various departments like Laboratory Sciences, Bio-Chemistry,
Physiology, Anatomy and others. Other facilities include, 18 classrooms, Conference room,
Library, Cafeteria, Basement parking and office of the Dean
While receiving the building from the officials from public works who were the project manager,
the Vice Chancellor, thanked the Almighty God for the success witnessed all the way from the
conception of the project to the completion. She also thanked the National government for
funding the project.
Prof. Laila further applauded the TUM project team led by Prof. Rasowo, the DVC (AFP) for
working tirelessly hard, to the management and staff of TUM for the continued support and
having persevered the unconducive environment like noise and dust that are always the norm of
a construction site for a long period time during the construction of the school.
She challenged the DVC, ARE Prof. Peter Gichangi to do his best so that the school can be
operational from September intake 2021. On the same note, she used the occasion to call for
donor support so as to help equip the laboratories fully
On his part, the DVC AFP Prof. Joseph Rasowo, thanked TUM project team members for the
dedication and commitment that has ensured the project success. The team appointed by the
VC comprised of Mr. Mahir, Estate manager, Mr. Dalton Mwangolo, finance officer and Madam
Susan Wanjiru, senior procurement officer.
He further expressed his gratitude to the project contractor Mr. Abdi Aden and the team from
public works led by Architect Simon Bwire, Eng. Oriku- Structural engineer, Eng. Kiiru-
mechanical engineer and Eng. Justus Ochina- electrical engineer and not forgetting Agustus
Ogot, the site agent.
DVC ARE Prof. Peter Gichangi highlighted the benefits of School of medicine not only to the
learners but to the entire TUM fraternity as one of the key investment.
He stated that the curriculum for the medicine course had been approved and the University is
just awaiting for accreditation from Medical board which will happen after the board inspecting
the facility.
He challenged the staff to be using such projects to get professional certification citing Madam
Patriciah Nyaoro as an example who used the project and is yet to be registered by Engineering
Board of Kenya.
