Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) staff were among the dignitaries from various institutions of higher learning in coast region, who graced the career fair at Tudor Day Secondary school which was held on 9th March 2019.

A total of 300 form three (3) and form four (4) students from Star of the Sea Secondary School, Mama Ngina Girls, Hassan Joho Girls, Maweni Secondary School, Coast Girls, Agakhan High School and Tudor Day Secondary school who were the host participated in the event. Rosemary Andanji Khacheso and Asha Abdalla Kombo from Registrar Academic Affairs Office took them through the historical background of TUM and Academic Programmes offered in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Applied and Health Sciences, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Business and the Institute of Computing and Informatics.

“Our programmes range from Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma, Degree, Master’s Degree and PhD. If you will not manage to get a C+ (plus) in your final examination, you still have a chance at TUM.” Rosemary explained.

Asha Abdalla advised girls to desist from early marriages to achieve their goals in life. The Corporate Communications Officer Mr. Salim Chiro encouraged students to pursue different courses at TUM so that they can join the league of renowned innovators in the world.

“Go to google and search for Anthony Mutua a former TUM student, he invented phone charging shoe which is rated among the top ten best ideas in the world. Daniel Martim’s Torque controller was tested at Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and has become a game changer in energy saving. Recently, another TUM student invented a device which captures mosquitoes that cause Chikungunya and Dengue fever. There are more than 31 Public Universities in Kenya but I urge you to join TUM because we are a hotbed of innovations.” Salim Concluded.

Tudor day secondary school Principal Mr. Watoro Peter commended TUM for giving the students an opportunity on career guidance.
