Tum buildings are part of the precious Kenyan national heritage traced back to 1940s. Its religious architectural design signifies past events that took place int historical scenic town of Mombasa. Tum has endeavored to protect these historical buildings through renovation and repair while utilizing them as lecture halls, event halls and office space.
Speaking during the handing over of the refurbished Business Block on 17th May 2023, Prof Laila thanked the Deputy Vice Chancellor - Administrative Finance &Planning (DVC -AFP) Prof. Rasowo who was the project implementing head, architect Onesmus Mwatu and the rest of the team who ensured that the 70 -year old building has been made a better place to live in so that the students can have a good University experience. ``I applaud the contractor and the committee involved in this project for ensuring that the building is disability friendly since we have Pwd students in our institution, this has been achieved through the installation of ramps and curb cuts as well as utilizing door mapping.’’ She said.
She concluded by commending the team for involving students pursuing various courses related to the project such as Karen Karimi a third -year student studying quantity survey and Oscar Karisa who is pursuing electrical and electronics. ``Whenever we have projects such as this let us involve our students so that they get experience and exposure for their careers.’’
